callsign_meaning =KBGY (107.5 FM) is an American
radio station licensed by theFCC to operate in Faribault, Minnesota and serving south central Minnesota, with a signal that reaches Mankato, Rochester and the southern suburbs of the Twin Cities.The station, which signed on in 2001, currently airs a format consisting of regional Mexican music and entertainment programming as "La Mera Buena".
Milestone Radio owns or manages other stations surrounding the Twin Cities area including
WQPM in Princeton,KLCI in Elk River, KASM andKDDG in Albany andWLKX in Forest Lake.Milestone Radio is the managing company for both KBGY and WLKX, which are mostly owned by the Peters Family, a predominantly Christian-based broadcaster.
After receiving its license, KBGY aired a simulcast of the Christian music programming of WLKX ("Spirit FM").
In late 2004, KBGY was leased to a radio group that created its current format, making it the first Spanish-language FM station in Minnesota.
The station airs Spanish-language broadcasts of select
Minnesota Twins games.On
August 4 ,2006 , the NBA [http://www.nba.com/timberwolves/news/la_mera_buena_release_060112_rd.html announced] that twelveMinnesota Timberwolves basketball games during the 2006-07 season will air on KBGY in Spanish.KBGY is also a secondary outlet for
Minnesota Wild hockey games, when pre-empted by flagship WCCO. These games, however, will be in English.In January 2008, KBGY started simulcasting the morning show from KLCI 106.1 in Elk River, MN, and KDDG 105.5 in Albany, MN. KLCI and KDDG share a Country format and the moniker "Bob 106". The morning Show from these stations features personalities Chuck Knapp and Jon Engen, who were titled the #2 morning show in the Twin Cities metro. Because KLCI operates as a rimshot signal, the show can not be heard in the south metro suburbs. To get more listeners out of reach of the signal, owner Milestone Radio interrupts the Regional Mexican format, and features Chuck and Jon from 5:30 am to 9 am. KBGY continues the Regional Mexican format for the remainder of the day.
