San Pedro Cutud is a
barangay inCity of San Fernando, Pampanga province in thePhilippines , approximately 70 kilometers north ofManila . It is known for annual re-enactments of thecrucifixion ofJesus . DuringHoly Week each year, thousands of penitents arrive in the area to watch and take part in a pageant commemorating the passion, death andresurrection of Jesus, including theGood Friday flagellation and crucifixion rituals. A small number of participants choose to have their hands and feet temporarily nailed to makeshift crosses as a sign of faith and repentance; some undergo the ritual yearly.It was on
March 21 ,2008 , Pampanga carpenter Ruben Enage, 47, when he was nailed to a wooden cross onGood Friday for the 22nd time, since his first in 1985. 25 other penitents, including two women, were nailed on wooden cross on Good Friday in San Pedro Cutud. Central Luzoncrucifixion reenactments were also held yearly, in Angeles City, Sto. Tomas, Pampanga, and in Bulacan.
