- Yohannes Gugarats
Yohannes Gugarats (modern Armenian spelling Hovhannes) was an Armenian military leader in early 18th century. He was one of the companions of
David Bek moving toSyunik from the northernArmenia n region ofGugark circa 1722. According to Ghukas Sebastatsi's [http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/~aua/texts/ghukas_sebastatsi/patmutiun_ghaphantsoj/bazhin_001/glukh_002.html History of Kapan] , Gugarats commanded a 6,500 strong detachment of Gugark Armenians in the (ultimately unsuccessful) siege of theVorotnaberd castle, considered impregnable. He later rescuedDavid Bek 's treasury and liberated the Armenian hostages taken by the Turks in Shnher town. He settled in the town ofMeghri .----References
