Rose Jackson

Rose Jackson is an Australian university student and political activist. She has held a number of positions over the years in various organisations.

Student politics

Formerly she was also a member of the National Organisation of Labor Students (NOLS), prior to the merger of that faction with Australian Labor Students in late 2005 (leading to the formation of the National Labor Students faction) - and is currently a member of Young Labor (the youth wing of the Australian Labor Party) as an executive on its NSW faction.

Family

She is the daughter of Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) journalist Liz Jackson Her father is film maker and journalist Martin Butler. She also has a younger brother. Fact|date=July 2008

Post university career

For the 2007 Federal Election, Rose was the Campaign Director for Labor's Candidate for the marginal Sydney seat of Wentworth, George Newhouse.

On 21 November 2007, it was alleged Jackson had "espoused anti-Zionism" during her tenure in the NUS. (November 29, 2007) ] ] a leaked email which Jackson had addressed to "Dear Activists", stating "I oppose Zionism because it calls for the creation of a Jewish state, and I think all governments should be secular". The incident attracted significant media coverage because of Jackson's role as a staffer for candidate George Newhouse whose electorate of Wentworth has the highest Jewish population of any in Australia. In September 2008 Jackson was elected as a Counciler to Wavely local council, in Sydneys eastern suburbs. She continues to interact and grow in popularity with activist groups and the left wing of the Australian Labor party.
