Avatre

Avatre

Avatre is only the second tame dragon in the world in which Tia and Alta exist. This world was created by Mercedes Lackey in the Joust series.

Avatre was born from an egg by a dragon-boy named Vetch who's real name is Kiron (who was born himself in Alta) in Tia. Avatre was raised by Kiron and as a result, has an extremely strong bond, which in the book "Alta" is described as that of lovers.

Avatre is scarlet and gold in colouring (she is a Tian desert dragon) and Kiron later picks scarlet and black as his flight colours when he gets his own wing in the Altan Jousters where he is teaching teenage boys on how to raise dragons from their eggs and so create a bond as strong as his and Avatre's.

Avatre is a highly tame dragon and is calm with unconditional love for Kiron and will do all that he asks of her, demonstrating that tame dragons which have been raised by their riders from birth are far better than wild dragons taken as adults.

The idea for raising a dragon from an egg came from Ari and his dragon Kashet, whom Kiron once worked as Dragon Boy for.
