Jack Melendez

Jack Melendez

Hector Melendez, better known by his stage name, "Moody" Jack Melendez, is a Puerto Rican professional wrestling sportscaster. He is best known (in the United States) as the Spanish play-by-play announcer for TNA and personal ring announcer for the Latin American Exchange. Melendez is bilingual, speaking both Spanish and English.

Career

Early in his childhood Melendez enjoyed wrestling, to the point where his mother used to take him to the World Wrestling Council shows in order to avoid having discussions with him. During this time he interested in Capitol Sports Promotions, until Bruiser Brody died after an event. After this event Melendez became interested in the programation of the World Wrestling Federation and World Championship Wrestling. He continued seeing Capitol's programming but didn't his interest in local wrestling wasn't revived until the debut of the International Wrestling Association. While working with a magazine in Puerto Rico's metropolitan area he pursued a job with the company, while selling them advertisement and writing articles about them. While doing this he met Juan Rivera and entered the company. When he began working in the International Wrestling Association he began working in a project where the company tried to publish a magazine but this project wasn't completed. He subsequently received a position with the creative team, along Dutch Mantel. While working with the creative aspect he tried to contribute with other parts of the company. His first work within a storyline involved producing an angle that was written by Mantel with the editor. After this he learned how to work with the editing of videos. When the company began receiving more attention the amount of work augmented and he began to work with video editing full time. When Luke Wiliams entered the company he instructed Melendez in aspects of the creative organization, and both created a friendship.

Melendez left Puerto Rico in 2004 and joined TNA, then based in Nashville, Tennessee, as a sportscaster. He was originally partnered with Armando Quintero before Konnan began providing commentary.

In December 2005, Konnan formed a stable known as the Latin American Exchange (LAX), claiming that Latinos were discriminated against in TNA. In mid-2006, the LAX set up a "border zone" around the Spanish commentary table, attacking any wrestlers who crossed the "border". From TNA Victory Road 2006 on July 16, 2006, Melendez began acting as the personal ring announcer of the LAX, introducing them in Spanish. In October 2006, Melendez quit Total Non-stop Action Wrestling after feeling slighted by how small the pay raise he was offered after his role and workload in TNA had been expanded. He then returned to Puerto Rico to work there full time. However, on the January 18, 2007 edition of TNA iMPACT Moody Jack returned to television in his previous role, while sometimes finding himself involved in the outcome of an LAX match. Melendez then began working in the World Wrestling Council where he worked as general manager, as well as working in the creative and narration while serving as manager of "La Rabia" a stable of wrestlers that came to the company along him.
