"Carry On Behind" is a 1975 film in the British "Carry On" series of comedies.

As with all the films in the series, it was directed by Gerald Thomas and produced by Peter Rogers. It was the first to be written by Dave Freeman, following the departure of Talbot Rothwell. It starred "Carry On" regulars Kenneth Williams, Bernard Bresslaw, Peter Butterworth, Joan Sims, Kenneth Connor, Jack Douglas, and Patsy Rowlands, along with newcomers to the series Windsor Davies and European sex symbol Elke Sommer. Sherrie Hewson, Carol Hawkins, Ian Lavender, Adrienne Posta, Liz Fraser, George Layton, Larry Dann and David Lodge appear in supporting roles.

This was the last "Carry On" film for both Bernard Bresslaw and Patsy Rowlands. By this time, Sid James, Terry Scott, Hattie Jacques and Charles Hawtrey had already left the series.

Plot Summary

Professor Roland Crump (Williams) takes Russian Professor Vooshka (Sommer) on an archeological expedition to find Roman remains on a caravan site. Major Leep (Connor), the pompous owner of the caravan site. Site guests include butcher Fred and electrician Ernie (Davies and Douglas) who plan to misbehave on a holiday away from their wives, and suburban husband and wife Arthur and Linda (Bresslaw and Rowlands) with nagging mother-in-law Daphne (Sims). Butterworth is odd-job man Barnes, virtually a reprise of his role as Joshua Fiddler in "Carry On Camping" (1969). Professor Vooshka has much difficulty getting her tongue around various English words and phrases causing Crump much embarrassment. Leep variously tries to improve the site and organise a social evening with dancing. Thanks to the ineptitude of Barnes and his other workers these attempts fail miserably and Leep is left "feeling a complete arse".

Filming

It was filmed in and around Pinewood Studios in the winter of 1975. The bare trees, muddy fields and icy breath are all quite visible, although the setting is a summer caravanning holiday.

The location of the Caravan Park was the same field used for the campsite in "Carry On Camping".

Whilst this film was in production, Bernard Bresslaw and Joan Sims also appeared in "One of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing", another film being made at Pinewood Studios alongside "Carry On Behind". Previous Carry On actors Jon Pertwee and Amanda Barrie also appeared in "Dinosaurs".
