Makar Sankranti , about bringing down GangaGanges River from heaven, which involves King Sagara ofIkshvaku dynasty [ [http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m03/m03106.htm Ikshaku tribe] The Mahabharata translated byKisari Mohan Ganguli (1883 -1896), Book 3: Vana Parva: Tirtha-yatra Parva: Section CVI, p. 228 'There was born in the family of the Ikshaku tribe, a ruler of the earth named Sagara, endued with beauty, and strength...".] , fromAyodhya , an ancestor ofRama . King Sagara had performed theAswamedha yagna (Horse-sacrifice) ninety-nine times. Each time a horse was sent around the earthIndra the King of theHeaven grew jealous and kidnapped the horse, hiding it in the hermitage of Kapila Muni during the hundredth sacrifice.The 60 000 sons of Sagara found the horse, and believing Kapila to be the abductor assaulted him. Kapila turned the assailants to ashes. Anshuman, a grandson of King
Sagara (Son of Asamanjas the Wicked son of King Sagara), came to Kapila begging him to redeem the souls of the 60 000.
