Boyd Raeburn (b. Faith,
South Dakota ,United States ,October 27 ,1913 ; d. Lafayette,Louisiana ,United States ,August 2 ,1966 ) was an Americanjazz bandleader and bass saxophonist.His
big band , which was active ca. 1944-1947, performed arrangements that were often quiteavant-garde , like the arrangements ofStan Kenton during the same period. The compositions arranged byGeorge Handy were the most contemporary, utilizing dissonance somewhat in the manner ofIgor Stravinsky .He died of a heart attack in 1966. His living family includes Merla McKinney of Kansas, his half-sister, and Bruce Boyd Raeburn of New Orleans, his son, who is the curator of the William Ransom Hogan Archive of New Orleans Jazz at the
Tulane University inNew Orleans .External links
