Airport Road, Bangalore

Airport Road is a major road in Bangalore. Recently it has been more in the news due to its frequent traffic jams. This road is a prominent part of the so-called "infrastructure problem" of Bangalore city. It begins from the point where Trinity Church Road and Victoria Road meet and goes right up to the HAL Bangalore International Airport. Beyond that, the road officially becomes Varthur Road, but ever since the real estate boom started around 2003, builders have started calling the stretch between the Airport and the Marathahalli Outer Ring Road as Airport Road. Even so that due to the high significance of this road it has achieved due to its high accessibility for reaching Whitefield (one of the major hubs of modern IT industry), the road beyond Marthahalli officially recorded as Varthur Road now is more commonly known as Airport-Whitefield Road.

Landmarks

Some prominent landmarks on Airport Road are Command Hospital Air Force, the five star Hotel Leela Palace, Diamond District Apartments, Nilgiris supermarket, Manipal Hospital, etc. It also has Kemp Fort, one of the earliest malls in the city, which also houses a temple with a huge statue of the Hindu god Shiva, complete with a cave-like "yatra" at the rear.
