Song of the Summer

Song of the Summer

The Song of the Summer is a hit song typically released in the spring that through its popularity and omnipresence becomes the defining song for the Summer. The rules for selection are typically stated that it has to be uptempo with a good beat, be played on radio stations playing different music genres, and be the kind of song that everyone knows, sings or hums along to, and gets stuck in your head, even if you can't stand it.

Because this isn't an official designation but based on casual conversation and differing opinions, there is often spirited debate over what the Song of the Summer is for each year. The Teen Choice Awards select a "Choice Song of the Summer" each year.
