Thriprayar is located south-west of
Thrissur City, in the middle ofGuruvayur -Kodungallur Highway (NH 17), bears a magnificent temple to Sri Rama which is associated with many interesting legends.History
The Triprayar temple was originally under the domain of the
Zamorin rulers ofKerala . It later came under the possession of the Dutch, theMysore sultans and the rulers of Cochin.Geography
Triprayar is centered around the Sri Rama temple. It is the only Rama temple which has a river adjacent to it.
Triprayar is about 23 km away from Guruvayoor Sri Krishna temple and 30 km away from
Irinjalakuda temple via Katoor, Edamuttam etc.Kodungallur Town is 24 km away.the nearest railhead is thrissur, 22 km east of the temple. there is a beautiful beach 3 km off the temple.an archway is being built at the main entrance (west nada) of the sreerama temple by the children of the late astrologer karathullykalari sreenivasan panicker of nearby thanyam village. the foundation stone of the arch was laid by kerala devaswom minister g. sudhakaran on 28th september 2007. the archway is dedicated to lord sreerama in the name of the late sreenivasan panicker on the occasion of his wife's saptati. there is a traditional connection between the karathullykalari astrologer's family and the sreerama temple. one of the late astrologer's sons, thambiraj s panicker, is a noted astrologer and practising tantric. he is residing near the friday market, just 2 km east of the temple. Arattupuzha temple festival is one of the major festivals of kerala, second only to thrissur pooram, in number of elephants and display of fireworks. the festival is considered as a darbar of gods, the chief guest being lord sreerama, locally called triprayar thevar.
