- Hayward Alker
Hayward R. Alker (1937-2007) was a Professor of
International Relations at theUniversity of Southern California School of International Relations . Professor Alker specialized in core theory & methods; International politics & security [http://www.usc.edu/dept/LAS/ir/faculty/g-alker.htm] . He received hisB.S. in mathematics from theMassachusetts Institute of Technology , and both his M.A. and Ph.D. inpolitical science fromYale University . He has been John A. McCone Professor of International Relations at USC since 1995; previously, he was a professor of political science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Professor Alker has received appointments as a visiting professor at a number of institutions, includingBrown University ,University of Wales, Aberystwyth , and theUniversity of Michigan . From 1992-1993, he was the President of theInternational Studies Association .Professor Alker was one of the 12 key contemporary thinkers covered in the 1997book "The Future of International Relations," edited by Iver Neumann. He was married to
J. Ann Tickner , also a professor of International Relations at USC.He died on August 24, 2007 at the age of 69 after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage at his home in
