Brunswick School (Connecticut)

Brunswick School is an all boys college-preparatory day-school located in Greenwich, Connecticut, United States. The school starts at Pre-Kindergarten, includes a Lower School (grades 1-4) and a Middle School (grades 5-8), and continues through High School, or as it is called within the Brunswick Community, Upper School, which includes grades 9-12. The school's mascot is the Bruin, and its colors are Brown and Gold. The present Headmaster and Head of the Upper School is Thomas Philip. The present Lower and Middle School Heads are Elenor Lindburg and Sarah Burdett, respectively.

The school motto is "Courage, Honor, Truth." The school proverb is "With All Thy Getting, Get Understanding."

Mission

Founded in 1902 by George B. Carmichael, Brunswick School is a college preparatory day school serving 575 boys in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12. The purpose of the School, is to help boys and young man without regard to background acquire the personal, intellectual and physical training that will best enable them to grow into, responsible, adults who can make significant and lasting contributions to society. Through a rich and rigorous college preparatory curriculum, the school strives for the fullest intellectual development; of every young man. Academic programs instill in each student a desire to learning, changes each boy to fulfill his or her own unique potential, foster critical thinking skills and develop the qualities of mind necessary for intellectual maturity and self-confidence. A famous quote of George L. Carmichael's that is often dictated by teachers is: "Wherever you go, Brunswick goes with you." Brunzwick Students are encouraged to abide by this maxim wherever they go.

The school is made up of three different campuses. The Upper School campus is located on Maher Avenue in Greenwich. The Upper School English annex and Pre-School building is located on North Maple Tree Avenue, a short walk away from the Upper School. The bucolic Edwards Campus (named after the former Headmaster, Duncan Edwards, II) is located about 20 minutes away from the Maher Avenue campus on King Street. Edwards Campus is made up of both the Middle School and Lower School buildings, as well as the Burke Fieldhouse (basketball, wrestling, tennis) and Sampson Fieldhouse (which houses the Dann O'Neil Gym, the Stephens squash courts, the Cosby Workout Center, and Hartong Rink). A new turf field (Cosby field) was the home to the varsity football and lacrosse teams.

Coordination with Greenwich Academy

Brunswick's sister school is Greenwich Academy, which is located two blocks from Brunswick's Upper School campus. The two schools share classes with each other during Upper School.
