Walter P Moore Engineers and Consultants

Walter P Moore Engineers and Consultants, based in Houston, Texas, is one of the preeminent structural engineering companies in the United States. The firm also provides significant services in the structural diagnostics, civil engineering, transportation engineering, parking consulting and traffic engineering fields. The firm is best known for its work on sports stadiums and arenas.

History

Walter P Moore and Associates, Inc. was established in 1931 by Walter P. Moore Sr. using the proceeds from the sale of a Stutz Bearcat. He did not want a car, he wanted an engineering company. That the firm is operating 75+ years later is an indication of the importance and personal responsibility that both father, Walter Sr., and son, Walter Jr., attached to engineering.

Providing the structural engineering for the Astrodome in the 1960s put the firm "on the map." Since then, it has expanded its service lines to include retractable roofs, healthcare, government buildings, mixed use/retail, evaluation and forensics, public works, infrastructure master planning and others.

Current status

Walter P Moore is a privately held corporation with ownership distributed among full-time employees, primarily engineering staff but including other key staff members. Walter P Moore is headquartered in Houston, where approximately 150 employees are located. The firm also has offices in Atlanta, Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando, San Francisco, Tampa, Tulsa and Washington, D.C. The firm has more than 400 total employees.

Walter P Moore has a strong culture of employee satisfaction, and was ranked No. 1 in Structural Engineer's 2005, 2006, and 2007 "Best Places to Work." In 2007, the firm was rated #6 among all civil/infrastructure firms by CE News.
