Kadnikov ( _ru. Ка́дников) is a town in Sokolsky District of
Vologda Oblast ,Russia . It is situated on the bank of theSodima River , 43 km south-east ofVologda . Population: 5,100 (2005 est.); 5,362 (2002 Census).The town traces its history to 1492, when a patrol station was set up to protect the trade route from
Moscow northward. The village of Kadnikovskaya ( _ru. Кадниковская) gradually became the largest settlement in the district and was incorporated as a town in 1780. In the 20th century, the population of Kadnikov has declined as that of neighbouring Sokol (12 km to the north-west) has grown.A historical interest attaches to Ilyinsky
