Modugno is a town and comune located in southern Italy in the province of Bari, Puglia. At the 2001 census the municipality had a population of 35,980 inhabitants and a land area of 31.90 km² (12.32 sq mi). As of 2011, the mayor of the town is Domenico Gatti.

Since the 1970s this town was mainly dedicated to agriculture but after the construction of the industrial zone, it has become one of the most important industrial sites of the region.

Geography

Modugno is situated 5 kilometres from the shore. The landscape is mainly flat.

History

The land where the town now stands has been inhabited since a pre-historical age. The actual town was founded in the Middle-ages and then was put under the control of the Normans.
