issues=Saint Willibald (born in
Wessex , died 787 or 781 inEichstätt ) was an 8th centurybishop of Eichstätt inBavaria .His travels toRome ,Asia Minor , andJerusalem were recorded in preserved manuscripts written byHuneberc , an Anglo-Saxon nun fromHeidenheim . In the 720s he was taken prisoner by theSaracens , who first took him to be a spy, but was later released when that allegation was disproven. His experiences provide a first hand account of the regional conflicts between theChristians and theSaracens .He was the brother of
Saint Walburga and settled inMonte Cassino (730-740 C.E.). He was sent toGermany byPope Gregory III to assistSaint Boniface .His feast day is
