University, Toronto

University is a census neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, so named because it contains part of the main campus of the University of Toronto. Although the area is defined by Statistics Canada and the municipal government for the purpose of statistical reporting, [ [http://www.toronto.ca/demographics/neighbourhoods.htm How neighbourhoods are defined] ] Toronto residents rarely consider it a separate neighbourhood in the practical sense. Instead, the area immediately west of Spadina Avenue between Bloor Street and College Street is typically referred to as Sussex-Ulster (or more recently, the South Annex), and the University of Toronto itself is usually considered a separate entity.

The census neighbourhood as defined by the government is bounded by Bloor Street to the north, Bathurst Street to the west, College Street to the south and Queens Park Crescent to the east. This definition does not include portions of the university campus to the east of Queen's Park; notably, Victoria University, St. Michael's College, the Banting Institute and the Centre for Bioethics all lie outside this area.

Reflecting the significant student population from the university, the renter rate in the area is 66 percent. Forty-two percent of the population is between the ages 20 and 34.

The University of Toronto is by far the largest landlord in the area.
