Johann Jacob Bach

Johann Jacob Bach (aka Johann Jakob) was a German musician, composer and an older brother of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Born: Possibly in Eisenach,1682
Died: 1722

* played oboe and flute, and possibly violin.
* He and his brother, Johann Sebastian Bach, moved in with their older brother Johann Christoph Bach, organist at Ohrdruf, when his father, Johann Ambrosius Bach, died. [1]
* In 1704, left to be oboist in the army of King Charles XII of Sweden, which possibly inspired Johann Sebastian to write a "Capriccio on the Absence of His Most Beloved Brother." [1a] [2]
* Possibly also composed "Sonata in C minor" as "Signor Bach" [3]
* Studied flute under Pierre-Gabriel Buffardin in Constantinople.
* Participated in the battle of Poltava (1709) [4]
* 1713-1722 served in the court of Stockholm [4]
