Avishai Margalit is George F. Kennan Professor to
Philosophy at theInstitute for Advanced Study inPrinceton, New Jersey . He's winner of the Emet Prize in 2007 and Spinoza Lens Prize in 2001.Born in
Afula inPalestine in 1939 he was raised and educated inJerusalem . Did army service in theNahal . ObtainedBA inPhilosophy in 1963 andEconomics andMA in Philosophy in 1965.He received a
Ph.D ., "summa cum laude", in 1970 from theHebrew University of Jerusalem . his doctoral dissertation, on the Cognitive Status of Metaphors, was written under the supervision ofYehoshua Bar-Hillel . Joined the faculty of the department of Philosophy at the Hebrew University in 1970. Serving as the chairman twice, and become full professor, holding the Schulman Chair in Philoshy. retired from the Hebrew University in September 2006. since July 2006 he's the George F. Kennan Professor toPhilosophy at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.Margalit traveled abroad teaching and lecturing, acting as a British Council Scholar at
Oxford University and a visiting scholar atHarvard University , the Free University in Berlin, Max Plank Institute in Berlin,Princeton University ' andNew York University . He occasionally contributes to the "New York Review of Books ".Margalit is one of the founders of
Peace Now .He is married to
Edna Ullman-Margalit , a professor of philosophy at the Hebrew University. Both Margalit and his wife are members of theCenter for the Study of Rationality in Jerusalem.Publications
