UTV-EMAP West Yorkshire is a local commercial digital radio multiplex in the United Kingdom, which serves the West Yorkshire area. It is jointly owned by UTV (70%) and EMAP (30%). UTV-EMAP West Yorkshire is transmitted on frequency block 11B from the Ainley Top (just north of
Huddersfield ), [http://www.aerialsandtv.com/keighleytx.html Keighley] and [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/732566 Westgate Hill] (on the A650 south-east ofBradford ) transmitters.The licence was [http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/archive/rau/newsroom/news-release/01/pr143.htm awarded] by the Radio Authority on October 4 2001 to TWG Digital, who were the only [http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/archive/rau/newsroom/news-release/01/pr112.htm applicant] for the licence on the closing date of August 21 2001. TWG Digital (part of The Wireless Group) became UTV-EMAP when TWG was bought by UTV in June 2005. The main transmitter was to be
Holme Moss , but Ainley Top was used instead. Westgate Hill is the most powerful signal of the three transmitters. The transmitters are twice as powerful than the nearbyEMAP Leeds multiplex. It launched in September 2002. The licence was advertised on May 18 2001.The Pulse of West Yorkshire, which is the main commercial station broadcasting to this area, is owned by UTV.
