Salthill was, until 2007, home to one of the biggest free air shows in Europe, the [http://www.salthillairshow.com/ Salthill Air Show] , which took place in June over Galway Bay. The show annually attracted over 100,000 people and generated over €1 million in revenue. [RTÉ News,

Due to these increased costs and also an ongoing protest by a group of Anti-War activists (The Galway Alliance Against War (GAAW)) a lack of funding caused the Air Show to be cancelled in November 2007. The anti-air show protest was satirised by poet Kevin Higgins [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Higgins,_poet_(1967-] in the poem 'The Annual Airshow Protest' [http://www.nthposition.com/stageleftbookshop.php] , which features in his 2008 book, "Time Gentlemen, Please" [http://www.salmonpoetry.com/timegentlemen.html]
