Fieldfare Cabin

Fieldfare Cabin

The Fieldfare cabin is a shelter in the Tafjord mountains of Norway, at the northern shore of the lake Heimste Veltdalsvatnet. Its place is very remote. It takes two or three days by foot on rough ground to get there. The cabin was built by the sabotage team of Joachim Rønneberg, dropped from England during World War II. They used it as a shelter for more than a year during their sabotage actions. It was build with the over-stock of materials used for civil construction on Heimste Veltdalsvatnet, which were built in the thirties. Actually, these men were the engineers of this lake-regulating project.

This hidden cabin is situated under an overhanging rock, to protect it from discovery by aircraft. Some years ago, it was renovated and is open today to the public.
