(1980)"Totally Hot" is an album by the Australian singer
Olivia Newton-John . Released in November 1978, it was her first album following the global success of the film "Grease" earlier that year which had made Newton-John an international superstar. The album peaked at no.7 in the US, and was also a Top 10 success in Japan, Canada, and her native Australia as well as making the Top 30 in the UK. In a similar pattern to her "Grease" character, Sandy Ollson, Newton-John moved away from the more wholesome image of her previous releases and was dressed in leather on the album cover. The album's singles "A Little More Love" (No.3 US, No.4 UK), "Deeper Than The Night" (No.11 US) and the title track (No.52 US) all demonstrated a more aggressive and uptempo sound for Newton-John. Newton-John's artistic development was also shown by a greater depth and power in her vocals and her two contributions as a songwriter ("Borrowed Time" and "Talk To Me"). Newton-John filmed promotional videos for all three singles. The album was certified Platinum in the US, and its first single, "A Little More Love", was certified Gold.Although the album focused much less on Country music than her mid-1970's albums, it still reached No. 4 on the Country Albums chart. While the "Totally Hot" single was targeted to pop radio, its B-side, "Dancin' 'Round And 'Round", was worked to AC (No. 25) and Country (No. 29). This was the first time since her 1975 single, "Let It Shine/He Ain't Heavy ... He's My Brother", that Newton-John worked both sides of a single to different radio audiences. "Dancin' 'Round And 'Round" also charted Pop (No. 82) after "Totally Hot" fell off the Hot 100.
