- SMS Bayern (1915)
SMS "Bayern" was a "Bayern"-class
battleship of the German Imperial Navy launched in 1915, entering service in 1916. Her main armament consisted of eight 15 in (38 cm) guns in four turrets. She was mined duringOperation Albion in theGulf of Riga onOctober 12 ,1917 ; her war career was otherwise quite unremarkable. She was scuttled inScapa Flow onJune 21 ,1919 , and in September 1934 was raised by the salvage firm Metal Industries of Charlestown and scrapped. Her four main turrets detached from the hull during the salvage operation and remain at the bottom of Scapa Flow.See also
