SpikeSource

SpikeSource is a company that specializes in providing business-ready free/open source software solutions. They choose to provide free/open source software because they believe such software offers lower total cost of ownership (TCO), ease of acquisition, deployment, and maintenance, mitigates risk, and delivers dependable and high-performance solutions.

The company was incubated in 2003 at VC firm Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers by Ray Lane and Murugan Pal, and launched its first products in April 2005. Series A and B investors include Intel Capital, co-led by Matthew Fix, and Fidelity Ventures.

Kim Polese, a well known and prominent Silicon Valley executive, assumed position of CEO on January 2005.
