community college whose maincampus is inUnion, MO . There are also facilities in the nearby towns ofWashington, MO ,St. Clair, MO ,Sullivan, MO , andRolla, MO . An estimated 3,500 students attend it each semester from mainlyFranklin County, MO andGasconade County, MO .Fact|date=May 2008 The school is apart ofMissouri 'sA+ Program , so many recent high school graduates attend the college with paid tuition for two years and then transfer to a four-yearuniversity . While there are many future transfer students who attend, there are also very manyvocational students who attend to receiveassociate's degrees (AAS) orcertificates .History
East Central College was founded in
1968 to serve the educational needs of the people in eastern centralMissouri . In that same year, 114acres were purchased for what is now the maincampus . The Administration Building was the first facility built on campus, and it was completed in1971 . TheMultipurpose Building came next in1973 , followed by theVocational-Technical Building in1978 and theClassroom Building in1985 . The most recent addition to the main campus is the newclassroom /auditorium facility constructed in1997 -98 . The campus now encompasses over 200acres and is expanding by building a new 15.8 million dollar facility for the use of theNursing ,Allied Health , andScience programs.Degrees and Certificates
East Central College offers
Associate of Arts (AA),Associate of Applied Science (AAS), andAssociate of Science (AS) degrees. It also offers19C ,1YR ,20HR , and2YR certificates .Terminology
Most local area residents refer to East Central College as "ECC," or more jokingly as "Harvard on the Hill"
