East Central College

East Central College is a community college whose main campus is in Union, MO. There are also facilities in the nearby towns of Washington, MO, St. Clair, MO, Sullivan, MO, and Rolla, MO. An estimated 3,500 students attend it each semester from mainly Franklin County, MO and Gasconade County, MO.Fact|date=May 2008 The school is apart of Missouri's A+ Program, so many recent high school graduates attend the college with paid tuition for two years and then transfer to a four-year university. While there are many future transfer students who attend, there are also very many vocational students who attend to receive associate's degrees (AAS) or certificates.

History

East Central College was founded in 1968 to serve the educational needs of the people in eastern central Missouri. In that same year, 114 acres were purchased for what is now the main campus. The Administration Building was the first facility built on campus, and it was completed in 1971. The Multipurpose Building came next in 1973, followed by the Vocational-Technical Building in 1978 and the Classroom Building in 1985. The most recent addition to the main campus is the new classroom/auditorium facility constructed in 1997-98. The campus now encompasses over 200 acres and is expanding by building a new 15.8 million dollar facility for the use of the Nursing, Allied Health, and Science programs.

Degrees and Certificates

East Central College offers Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Applied Science (AAS), and Associate of Science (AS) degrees. It also offers 19C, 1YR, 20HR, and 2YR certificates.

Terminology

Most local area residents refer to East Central College as "ECC," or more jokingly as "Harvard on the Hill"
