BBC Local Radio service for the Englishtown ofSwindon . Its format is a mix of news, information and music. For most of the day, BBC Radio Swindon's output is shared with that ofBBC Radio Wiltshire . The station underwent a virtual relaunch with an entirely new schedule in October 2007.History
The station was created in November 2002 when the former
BBC Wiltshire Sound was split into two services: BBC Radio Swindon, covering the town and surrounding areas, andBBC Radio Wiltshire , covering the rest of the county.The original line-up of distinct BBC Radio Swindon programmes consisted of Dan Chisholm ("Breakfast");
Peter Heaton-Jones ("Morning"); and Matthew Smith ("Drivetime"). The Afternoon show was shared with BBC Radio Wiltshire. In recent years, both the "Drivetime" and "Morning" programmes have also merged with the county-wide station.Transmission
BBC Radio Swindon broadcasts on 103.6
FM ,NOW Swindon DAB, and via live streaming on theinternet . There is no AM frequency, as this was given to BBC Radio Wiltshire when the stations split.The FM transmitter at
Blunsdon is two miles north of Swindon next to the A419 with a terrain height of 450ft. It is not particularly strong so as not to interfere with the more powerful 103.7FM signal ofBBC WM nearShipston on Stour .Current schedule
By 2007, although maintaining its separate on-air identity, BBC Radio Swindon was sharing all its programmes with BBC Radio Wiltshire, with the exception of Breakfast. On October 1st 2007, the station launched a complete new schedule. Breakfast remained the only separate programme, and was moved to an earlier timeslot - 6am to 9am, with a new presenter - Shaun Hodgetts. All other daytime programmes are shared with BBC Radio Wiltshire; helpfully they share the same building. In the evening it shares programming with other BBC local radio stations in the south-west of England. Overnight the station's frequency is used to re-broadcast
BBC Radio Five Live .External links
