Ibexian

Ibexian

The Ibexian is recognized as the youngest Cambrian and oldest Ordovician series in North America.

The Ibexian Series is named for Ibex Well in Tule Valley, near the Jack Watson ranch site of Ibex, on the east side of the Barn Hills in west-central Utah. The uppermost Cambrian in the type area includes the upper Lava Dam Member of the Notch Peak Formation and the lower part of the Barn Hills Member of the House Limestone. Lowermost Ordovician strata of Ibexian age include most of the remainder of the House Limestone. The base of the Ibexian is recognized as the first occurrence of the conodont, Cordylodus andresi, and the top is recognized as the base of the Stairsian Series.
