History
Created originally by Sylvan W. Clebsch, Stellar Crisis has since been modified by many other programmers.
PC Gamer reviewed the game in their March 1996 issue saying, "Stellar Crisis is a remarkable galactic conquest game playable over the Web." It currently has three operating servers, each of which hosts a slightly different version of the game. Currently a project is forming that will attempt to merge all existing versions and their different and unique features into Stellar Crisis v4.0 and make that version available as open source.Game play
Stellar Crisis is a turn based strategy game played on a two dimensional grid. Game play involves exploring new planets, colonizing, researching technologies, and combat. The game is deceptively simple to play, and yet, reasonably hard to play well. Like all great games, Stellar Crisis has no set strategy that will work every time. Despite its science fiction setting the game is mostly abstract, resulting in comparison to traditional
board game s likechess .Players
There are many players still around since the early days of the game when there was one server and only three ships available. Some of those players include Gooseberry, BigRed, Phantasmorgia, ROADRUNNER, GateKeeper, Bird of Prey (in various incarnations) and the famous Vodzca-Toonak. While each of these players have their own strategy, each has brought something to the game. Most SC players have heard of these legendary players, however V-T has played more games than any other player as a single empire, playing an impressive 10,000 + games with 7,000 of those being wins, (Combining records of all servers) since SC was created. V-T, as well as many others, still play today. Gooseberry has given back to the game a tremendous amount through his instructional pages. BoP kept word of the game alive when there were no servers for the game in 1996 by creating the S.C. Room to distribute updates about the game. Another longtime player is Benestrophe. He has gone under several names such as Yog sosoth, and Shiar Imperium. Bene has played the game since 1995ish. Also still around is Crusty Buns who has been playing for well over 10yrs. Much to our collective dismay!
