Katherine Lanpher (born
May 27 ,1959 ) is a media personality. She graduated with a degree in journalism from Northwestern University and with a master’s degree in American Cultural History from the University of Chicago.Until recently, she was a
talk radio personality, and previously an award-winningjournalist andnewspaper columnist for the Saint Paul Pioneer-Press. Her career includes internships with the Muskegon Chronicle, the Detroit Free Press and theChicago Sun-Times , where she danced her way through an investigation of dance studios. She has written free-lance articles and columns for publications including theNew York Times .As a columnist she also hosted a talk show for a Saint Paul commercial radio station. She was known even then as a liberal voice, although she was not strictly political.
Prior to broadcasting, she was a columnist for the "
St. Paul Pioneer Press " for 16 years before leaving to hostMinnesota Public Radio 's "Midmorning" program from August 1998 untilJanuary 20 ,2004 .Lanpher co-hosted the
Air America Radio program "The Al Franken Show " in 2004 and 2005. She left the show onOctober 7 ,2005 to write a memoir concerning her move toNew York City . The book is entitled "Leap Days: Chronicles of a Midlife Move" and was published onOctober 10 ,2006 .In January, 2007, "More" magazine announced that Lanpher would host an hourlong weekly broadcast on XM Satellite Radio called "More Time" to debut January 16. The announcement described the broadcast as focusing on "health, fashion, beauty, travel, entertainment and other features directed toward women aged 40 and older."
