Stephanie Kulp Seymour (born 1940 in
Battle Creek, Michigan ) is aSenior Judge on theUnited States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit . Seymour was nominated to the Tenth Circuit by PresidentJimmy Carter onAugust 28 1979 , to a new seat created by Congress. She was confirmed by theUnited States Senate onOctober 31 ,1979 . Seymour served as Chief Judge of the Tenth Circuit from 1994-2000. Judge Seymour was the first woman judge on the Tenth Circuit and also the first woman Chief Judge of the circuit. Seymour received aB.A. fromSmith College in 1962, and herJ.D. fromHarvard Law School in 1965. Prior to joining the federal bench, Seymour was in private practice for fifteen years inBoston ,Houston , andTulsa .
