San Rufo is a village and "comune" in the province of Salerno, in the Campania region of southern Italy.

Geography

The town lies in woodland and is bordered by Corleto Monforte, San Pietro al Tanagro, Sant'Arsenio and Teggiano.

History

The origin of San Rufo is uncertain, but it probably dates back to the 13th century.

The area around San Rufo is very interesting from the archaeological point of view. Unfortunately little has been saved of the artistic patrimony, but there are still some remains of the ancient castle and the town centre contains some interesting buildings from the 17th and 18th century.
