"The Doomsday Conspiracy" is a thriller novel by American writer Sidney Sheldon published in 1991 .

Plot summary

This story takes us through a twisting plot of a worldwide government conspiracy that could lead to the end of the world. One man's job to uncover witnesses of a mysterious event leads them and him into danger. Why? The protagonist of the story is Robert Bellamy - a man hired by the NSA to locate the several bus passengers in Switzerland who had accidentally seen a weather balloon with some top secret equipment (later on identified as a UFO) collapsing in the woods. Robert Bellamy sets out to learn the details and secrets in the lives of a group of people who are complete strangers to him. As Robert locates the passengers one by one, they are mysteriously killed. Each murder has been meticulously staged to appear as an accident. Robert has also had a break up with his beloved wife. She marries a rich business tycoon, because Robert is unable to give her the attention she craves. In the end Robert realizes that the man he trusted the most has betrayed him.
