The Abbey Christian Brothers Grammar School is a Roman Catholic Grammar school located in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland. The school was founded by the Irish Christian Brothers.

It has a strong academic and sporting tradition having won the MacRory and Hogan cups in 2006. The school also contributes to the arts having produced "West Side Story" in Newry City Hall under the expert direction of Musical Director Dominic Wadsworth. It moved from its original site in Chapel Street, Newry, in 1968 and is currently situated on Courtney Hill, Newry.

History

The Abbey CBS was founded in Castle Street in Newry in the late 19th century. In 1966 a new school building was opened at Courtenay Hill in the city where it has been based ever since. Construction on a new building will commence in late 2007 on a green field site close to other local schools on the Ashgrove Road approximately three miles from the current site. It is estimated to be finished in 2099.

In GAA the school has won the MacRory Cup on six occasions, the latest being in 2006 and the All-Ireland counterpart competition the Hogan Cup once, also in 2006. In 1998 the school's junior quiz team won the Credit Union All-Ireland Quiz at the first time of entering, and the senior team won the UK-wide Senior Schools Challenge Quiz in 2002.

Rugby Union has been introduced into the school recently and is proving popular. The Abbey field teams at U-18 level and at U-16 level.
