The Institute of Information Technology of the University of Dhaka - commonly known as IIT - is one of the fastest growing Institute of the University of Dhaka. IIT attracts high quality students in turn eminent faculty members have joined the Institute. The study of IT at this Institute is based on foundations, which build skill in life long learning, problem solving, cooperative work in groups (for software development) and proficiency in IT development. IIT offers market oriented programs based on Communication and Information Technology (IT). The lectures of these programs are supplemented by several Lab sessions, Tutorials and Projects (both individually and in groups). Recently IIT signed MOU with Microsoft Bangladesh to provide and enrich course curriculum of IIT.

In the annual session of June 2001, The Dhaka University Senate established Institute of Information Technology (IIT) by converting the erstwhile Computer Center (Estd. in 1985). The aim was to train skilled manpower in the field of Information Technology (IT) and to establish computer network in the University. The three-storey red ceramic IIT building has a silent ambience and it adjacent to Dhaka University Science Library and Khondker Mukarram Hussain Science Building.

Mission

The Institute's mission is to be a dynamic and progressive learning organization for the lifelong personal and professional development of its members and students. The Institute sets out to be a centre of excellence in teaching, learning and research in Information Technology in particular and in academic enterprise in general. It aims to forge a community of scholars, experts in their respective fields of research and sharing their expertise through high quality curricula within a friendly, caring and responsive culture.

Institute of Information Technology, DU aims to foster amongst its academia and students, such values which will ensure for it a place of pride in the world of learning. In a nutshell IIT aims to achieve the following:

* to contribute to the national economy and development of Bangladesh by making constantly available high-quality IT trained professionals.
* to bring the students in Bangladesh such high quality education that is available in technically advanced countries at much lower cost.
* to provide facilities for development of qualified man power in Information Technology(IT).
* to provide courses leading to Post Graduate Diploma in IT (PGDIT) and degrees i.e. Master in Information Technology (MIT).
* to provide consulting and advisory services to the University and other Educational Institutions, the Government of Bangladesh, NGO's, private and public sectors, corporations, industries which seek such assistance.
* to plan, install, develop and maintain computer networks within the University and also links to other Institutions in the country as well as the Internet.
