Outright Vermont

Outright Vermont is Vermont's only queer youth service organization.[1] Its mission is to build safe, healthy, and supportive environments for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth.

Outright Vermont is one of the oldest queer youth organizations in the United States, founded in 1989. In 2005 Outright was part of Vermont Unity Project to address harassment of LGBTQ students in public schools.[2][Need quotation to verify] Outright received the Liberty Hill Queer Youth Fund, which granted the organization $100,000 over three years.[3] In 2009 the group sponsored Gendertopia, a nine-week afterschool program to explore who gender and sexualities are represented in popular culture.[4] In 2009 they also started the first state-wide effort to ensure every "middle and high schools offer genderless bathrooms" .[5] In 2010 they joined in protesting the use of state funds for the Boy Scouts due to the Scouts' stance against allowing members and staff to be openly gay.[6]
