Poltergeist is a steel roller coaster located at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio, Texas. It has been open since 1999.
This coaster uses a LIM launching system instead of a traditional lift hill. Initially the ride had over the shoulder restraints, but these were replaced in 2002 with the more traditional individual ratcheting lap bars. A rather intense ride, Poltergeist entertains its riders through a fast 60-MPH launch, many drops and turns, and 4 inversions.
Poltergeist is one of four LIM Catapult coasters in the United States. It opened in the same year as Joker's Jinx at Six Flags America, three years after the world's first LIM-launched coaster, Flight of Fear, opened at Kings Island and Kings Dominion. In addition, another LIM Catapult coaster called Mad Cobra operated from 1998-2003 at Suzuka Circuit in Japan and is being moved to China. It is featured in Barnes and Nobles "Roller Coasters: A Thrill Seeker's Guide to the Ultimate Scream Machines"
