John Rutherford (historian)

John Rutherford was a history professor in the Department of History at Laurentian University. He taught at Laurentian for over 35 years and is known for his unique pedagogic approach involving the use of a book review and work plan used in all of his courses. Over the years he has taken on the responsibility of assisting his students to "open their minds."

His courses have focused on the French Revolution, the Paris Commune, Intellectual History from 1850 to present, and History of 19th and 20th century revolutions .

Professor Rutherford is also known within the Sudbury area and is an owner of several downtown businesses. Black Cat International is a known established business featuring an expansive collection of newspapers and magazines.
