Hines joined WTVF, then known as WLAC-TV, as Sports Director in 1971 following his graduation with a
Bachelor of Arts in journalism (A.B.J.) from theHenry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at theUniversity of Georgia . Beginning in 1975, Hines was Sports Director ofKFMB-TV inSan Diego, California . There, he also served as the play-by-play radio broadcaster for the NFL'sSan Diego Chargers . For a time, Hines worked forWWL-TV in New Orleans, and served as the television play-by-play announcer for theNew Orleans Saints .He spent a short stint in
Charlotte, North Carolina , where he worked forTed Turner at WRET (nowWCNC-TV ). Next he moved on to a job inBaltimore, Maryland , where he was the television play-by-play announcer for the Baltimore Colts, and anchorman forWMAR-TV . In 1983, Hines returned to the air in Nashville.Accolades
