James Rado (born James Radomski in 1932), is an American actor, writer and
composer , best known as the co-author, along withGerome Ragni , of the groundbreaking 1960srock musical "Hair". He and Ragni were nominated for the 1969Tony Award for best musical, and they won for best musical at the Grammy Awards in 1969.infobox actor

children's theatre , and then moved to New York in the early 1960s. Prior to "Hair", Rado originated the Broadway role ofRichard Lionheart in "The Lion in Winter " byJames Goldman (starringRobert Preston andRosemary Harris ). Later, both Rado and "Hair" co-writerGerome Ragni were cast in the Chicago company ofMike Nichols ' production of "The Knack", byAnn Jellicoe . They played the roles of Tom and Tolan, becoming a kind of acting duo. In 1968 he would perform with Ragni again when he originated the role of Claude (opposite Ragni's Berger) in "Hair", both on Broadway and in Los Angeles.Since then, he has been active in developing new productions of "Hair", including the 11 city 1994 national tour which he directed, and the 2006
