Aetolia-Acarnania ,Greece . It is located on the central west coast of the prefecture, near theLefkada Prefecture island community of Kálamos. It has a land area of 148.719 km² and a 2001 census population of 3,744 inhabitants. Its municipal seat is the town of Kandíla (pop. 1,266). The largest other towns are Archontochóri (pop. 919), Mýtikas (858), Várnakas (308), and Panagoúla (282).History
Ancient Alyzia was one of the most important cities of ancient
Acarnania . According toStrabo , the city was named after Alyzeus, son ofIcarius and brother ofPenelope (Odysseus ' wife).
