Henry Deacon is a character on the American science fiction drama "Eureka". He is played by Joe Morton.

Description

Formerly a space shuttle engineer for NASA, Henry is a jack-of-all-trades in the true sense of the word. He's the local mechanic for the town, which he simply does for fun, and is constantly inventing all sorts of devices. His devices tend to explode, malfunction, or otherwise misbehave in the trial stages, so much so in fact that any strange occurrence is usually attributed to him.

Aside from his mechanic job, he also performs most of the civil service jobs for the police department. He acts as both a forensic investigator and the coroner for Eureka, but he seems to have a new patch designating him as "Ballistics" or "Coroner", depending on the situation or problem at hand. In "H.O.U.S.E. Rules," it was revealed Henry was at some point Nathan Stark's teacher.

In "Before I Forget," Henry is reunited with a lost love, Kim Anderson. They had a very brief romantic relationship years before, though Kim does not seem to remember it. Kim's husband Jason, a world-renowned scientist, stole a device that erases memories from Henry and erased his recollection of creating the device, as well as Kim's memory of their relationship. When Jason is exposed and the truth comes out, Kim remains with Henry in Eureka.

He seems to have a small pocket notebook to record anything interesting or groundbreaking that is going on in the show, for example, when the "Figure" is seen on the SARAH video tapes.

In the final moments of "Purple Haze", Henry makes an announcement during a town meeting that leaves Jack Carter and Allison Blake stunned — he has decided that it is time for him to leave Eureka. He later realizes how much the town needs him and decides to remain.

In "Once in a Lifetime," Henry goes back in time to save Kim after an accident involving "the Artifact" occurred right after 9:27 am on October 3, 2006. This results in an alternate future, which eventually de-stabilizes and could cause the universe to unravel. Jack has to sacrifice the happy life he has built to go back in time and stop Henry, which he does.

In "Once in a Lifetime," Kim is killed performing an investigation into "the Artifact". The story cuts from a major problem happening to four years later, and it is revealed that Henry is now the head of Global Dynamics. Bizarre events start taking place, such as Jack's lost jeep appearing with three-years-old registration and a burned body appearing in one of the labs.

Kim begins DNA reconstruction on the body and discovers that it is herself. It is revealed that Henry had returned to GD in order to gain access to time travel technology so that he could travel back in time and save Kim, who was killed in the experiment shown at the beginning of the episode. This results in an unstable timeline that began to unravel. Kim convinces Henry that the timeline has to be restored, and she assists Jack in traveling back in time to fix the problem (by keeping Henry from saving Kim).

In "Phoenix Rising", Henry erases all of Jack's memories from the alternate timeline, using an improved version of the device introduced in "Before I Forget". Before he did so, he told Jack that he would also erase his own, but after Jack leaves (now unaware of anything that happened), he destroys the device, saying that "I will never forget."

Henry returns to Global Dynamics to resume Kim's work and learns that Beverly Barlowe placed some sort of device in Kim's lab prior to the "accident". He teams up with Stark, who is fired from his position as head of GD because of the accident, to investigate what really happened. He is not aware that Stark is working with Allison Blake, the new head of GD, to learn what the connection is between the artifact and Allison's son Kevin.

Due to an event where most of the residents of Eureka lose their intelligence, Henry apologizes to Jack for keeping secrets from him. Later, Jack remembers a fragment of the memory that was erased, and goes to Allison to get more information if he can. Allison and Stark realize that if Jack can learn something is going on, so can the Department of Defense. Allison shuts down Henry's research to prevent him from making waves.

At the end of Season 2, Henry was arrested by the DoD, for causing a Level Red Biohazard Alert within the GD, although he did so to save Kevin's life.

He was pardoned in the second episode of Season 3 by the corporate fixer hired by the DoD.

In the episode "I do over" Henry was the one who was to wed Nathan Stark and Allison Blake.

In "Here Comes The Suns", thanks to a inspiring speech during the crisis, a late write-in campaign orchestrated by Lexi Carter, and Jack's endorsement, Henry is elected Mayor of Eureka.
