Warren Consolidated Schools , inWarren, Michigan . WPHS was originally located at 91.5FM with 10watt s; WPHS now operates at 100 watts at 89.1 FM. The radio station's first broadcast was onMarch 24 ,1964 .The founding station manager and teacher was Charles Lampinen who retired in
1989 . Lampinen still maintains a presence on WPHS with a bi-weekly interview show aired before school board meetings. The current manager and teacher is Jennifer Stanczyk who took over for Lampinen in 1989.Most of the shows on the station during the school year are student produced. Often there are early morning
drive time shows that are primarily talk. Following this, the noontime shows are set aside for students new to the station to get acquainted with everything that goes into running a radio production. Mid-day shows follow a setplaylist oftechno artists. In the late afternoon and evening, student created shows are broadcast, and can be a variety of musical genres. Student produced radio ends at 8:30 PM local time. Whenever the station isn't broadcasting local shows or during summer, it plays classical music received by asatellite dish , the feed originating fromWCPE inNorth Carolina . From time to time the station broadcasts live high school sporting events, school board meetings, or other special events.Every year WPHS runs a 'marathon', where students broadcast 24 hours a day for five days as a
fund raiser . Generally, the funds raised are donated towards acharitable organization , or used to improve the station's equipment.Sources
