- Reverend Glasseye
Reverend Glasseye, also billed as Reverend Glasseye and His Wooden Legs, are a Boston,
Massachusetts -based American rock band. They were the winners of the 2005WBCN Rock & Roll Rumble .Boston's Reverend Glasseye has often been labeled dark salvation music; cautionary tales filled with American superstition and human frailty performed with the pomp and production of an unclean orchestra. With their live performances, Reverend Glasseye has gained the reputation of being something of a spectacle, developing a cult-like following, a counter culture of well-dressed, flower-wielding celebrants who add as much fray as the band’s intense fervor and off-kilter musicality. Consider this post-romantic revivalist glam, or perhaps simply gospel cabaret punk.
Reverend Glasseye is the brainchild of Adam Glasseye (bizarro reclusive ex-member of
Slim Cessna's Auto Club ), Timothy Maher (drums, also ofSlim Cessna's Auto Club ), and Piet Masone (vocal harmonic superman and stone-faced gospel organist). Through a revolving line-up that has included Paul Fonfara (incorrectly listed as "Fonfera") (Woven Hand ,Devotchka ,Jim White , and Twin Cities-based bands Painted Saints, Spaghetti Western String Co., and The Brass Messengers), andStevhen Iancu (Portland’sThe Dolomites and recent fill-in accordionist forGogol Bordello ), the band has been fortunate to have recently joined with three classically-trained rejects: Paul Dilly on the upright bass and lead guitar, Cassandra Lomas on the trombone and tuba, and Kevin Corzett on the saxophone and clarinet.Their debut album, 'Black River Falls' (released under the name of 'Reverend Glasseye And His Wooden Legs'), was warmly welcomed by press and radio alike, ranking number seven on CMJ's Most Added list and claiming a spot on the Top 200 for six weeks. The album has gone on to sell thousands of copies worldwide, creating an international underground following, and has been honored with accolades from the Boston Music Awards, Boston Phoenix awards, Performing Songwriter Monthly and the CBC to name several. Reverend Glasseye's second release, 'Happy End and Begin', was released in the Fall of 2004 on Ottawa's
Music For Cats Records , to critical praise and quickly went on to become the label's top seller. In 2005 Reverend Glasseye won Boston's most prestigious battle of the bands, WBCN's Rock and Roll Rumble. The latest record, 'Our Lady of the Broken Spine' was released onNovember 8 2005 to rave reviews and a steady CMJ presence. The band’s increasing tour schedule has packed venues from Boston to Los Angeles, Missoula to Ottawa and has granted the band performances with the likes ofRasputina ,Gogol Bordello ,Sex Mob ,The World Famous Pontani Sisters ,Th' Legendary Shack Shakers ,HUMANWINE ,Strawfoot ,The Red Elvises andThe Dresden Dolls .Adam Glasseye and Tim Maher recently moved to Austin, Texas, where they are currently working on a new project, the Insect Fable.
