The majority of restored trains are operated inheritage railway s andrailway museum s, although they can also be found on the main lines orbranch line s of the commercial working railway, operated by specialistrailtour companies or museum groups.Restored trains can be
freight train s orpassenger train s, or examples of both, such as on quiet branch lines. Other trains may be restoredmultiple unit s. Some trains, such as theVenice-Simplon Orient Express , use modern locomotives pulling restored carriages. Other operators use restoredlocomotive s, often but not exlusivelysteam locomotive s, hauling either modern or restored carriages.For authenticity, the location/route of preserved trains is often chosen to match the original trains used. Staff may also wear period costume.
