The Sucre Municipality comprises the metropolitan area of
Caracas ; Petare is the seat of the municipality and it was founded on February 17, 1621, under the name of "Jesús de Petare". Located at 844 meters above sea level, to the east of the valley of Caracas, in a hill that dominates the course of the Guaire river, Petare in the native language means "Face to the river".Demographics
