Barry J. Zimmerman is an educational researcher at the
City University of New York where he holds the title Distinguished Professor of Educational Psychology. He has written over 100 scholarly publications on learning and motivation, many describing his research and theories onself-regulated learning .From the CUNY Educational Psychology webpage:Barry J. Zimmerman is a Distinguished Professor of Educational Psychology and Head of Learning, Development, and Instruction area at the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York. He has also been affiliated as a visiting scholar at Stanford University in 1991 and the University of Padua in 2006. He has conducted research and written extensively on the role of social learning and self‑regulatory processes of children, youth, and adults. More specifically, he has studied children’s and youth's acquisition of adults' concepts, standards, and competencies from social modeling and emulative experiences at home and in school. He has written more than 200 research articles, book chapters, and professional conference papers. He has also written or edited 13 books or journal volumes on social cognitive and self‑regulatory processes in the learning of children and youth. He has also conducted research on lung disease and was elected Chair of the Behavioral Science Assembly of the American Thoracic Association and Council member of the American Lung Association.
