Xuxa (TV series)

Xuxa (TV series)

"Xuxa" was the name of the Brazilian entertainer's self-titled children's television series that ran in syndication in the United States during the 1993-1994 season and was distributed by MTM Enterprises. Today Fox Television Studios owns the rights to all 75 episodes. In 1994 the series enjoyed a two year run on The Family Channel until 1996. The series was based on her similar popular children's series that was televised in Brazil and Latin America.

Background

The series was an English-language version of her popular Brazilian show and was an attempt to adapt it for American viewers, featuring games, stories, songs and celebrity guests (like Expose). However the series attracted complaints from parents due to her outfits and her controversial practice of putting on bright red lipstick and kissing the cheeks of prepubescent males at the end of each show.

In addition to being seen in the US, the show also aired in many countries throughout the world, among them Japan, Israel, Russia and some Arab countries.

In addition to Xuxa, the series also featured E. E. Bell as Jelly the Panda, Mark Caso as Jam the Jaguar, Natasha Pearce as Paquita, and Jeff Dunham.
